Disney Auctions Offers Online Bidding; Portion of Proceeds Go To Charity
“Celebration Mickey,” is the largest solid gold sculpture ever created in the United States, and the ultimate Disney collectible. The two-foot tall sculpture is molded out of 1,500 troy ounces (more than 100 pounds) of 24-karat gold (.9999 Fine) and was designed by Disney artist Marc Delle and produced by Great Western Mint in Orem, Utah. Valued at more than $1 million, Celebration Mickey depicts the hallmark Walt Disney character, Mickey Mouse, dressed in his traditional button shorts, gloves, shirt and shoes.
Bidding for this one-of-a-kind commemorative piece will begin Thursday, August 30 and conclude on Thursday, September 6, at 7:05 p.m. PDT., ‘The manufacturer of “Celebration Mickey”, The Great Western Mint, adds “Never in the history of art has a work of such enormous size been cast in pure gold. We are proud to be able to present this piece with expectations that art lovers and cultural historians yet unborn will look back upon this 1,500 troy ounce casting of pure gold and marvel at the technical prowess that it exhibits.”
A portion of the proceeds from the Celebration Mickey will be donated to The Walt Disney Company’’s compassion program for children with life-threatening illnesses. The proceeds will be used, in partnership with wish-granting organizations, to provide trips to Disney parks and resorts around the world, including Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Tokyo DISNEYLAND Resort, Disneyland Paris and Disney Cruise Lines, for thousands of children and their families. According to the Make-A-Wish© Foundation, a visit to a Disney theme park was this past year’’s most requested wish from children around the world.
Residents of California, Florida and South Carolina will be required to pay applicable sales tax. The winning bid price includes all shipping and handling costs for both domestic and international delivery. The winning bid price does not include duties, import fees, or value added taxes. If assessed, these charges are the responsibility of the winning bidder, who will be billed for them by the local customs office. Winner should allow 3-4 weeks for delivery.
