The Disneyland theme park in Hong Kong has been rumored to attract less than 13,000 visitors per day despite the introduction of discounted rates for Hong Kong residents, and falling short of government expectations, according to a South China Morning Post report. The government, which owns a 57 pct stake in the 3 bln usd venture, has said it expects 5.6 mln visitors in its first year of operation, or an average daily attendance of 15,342. Hong Kong Disneyland has gotten alot of hype and media attention when it first opened its dorrs for visitors. And we have seen a bad trend happening with the situation over there. From rude and disrespectful guests to low attendance.

Disney and the government declined to reveal the park’s attendance figures on regular days, but a count of visitors entering the Disney theme park showed that 12,972 people visited on Sunday November 13, and 11,399 on Wednesday November 16.

The government introduced discounts of about 50 hkd for Hong Kong residents in a bid to improve park attendance. A Disneyland spokeswoman dismissed the headcount, saying: ‘Any attempt to count our attendance is flawed’ while a Tourism Commission spokeswoman declined to reveal the figures for commercial reasons.

We shall see what will become of the newest Disney Park overseas. Maybe Disney can make some magic happen over there as well.
