1919: Actor Dick Wesson, the narrator of TV’s The Wonderful World of Disney (beginning with its original incarnation as Disneyland
in 1954) is born in Idaho.
1927: Disney’s Alice Comedy film, Alice at the Carnival premieres at the Paramount Theater in New York City. (The series of silent short live-action/animated films were the first movies that the Disney brothers produced and were the reason why the Disney Studios were originally created.)
1928: Disney’s Oswald the Lucky Rabbit silent cartoon
1946: Actress-singer Sandy Duncan is born in Henderson, Texas. Her Disney credits include the 1978 film The Cat From Outer Space, the 1976 television program Christmas in Disneyland, and the 1974 TV special Sandy in Disneyland.
1959: The TV series Walt Disney Presents airs “Elfago Baca: The Griswold Murder.” It is the 6th episode of the ten-part mini-series starring Robert Loggia.
1961: Disney’s animated short Aquamania, featuring Goofy, is released. (It will be nominated for an Academy Award.)
1982: “Beyond Witch Mountain” (a TV pilot for a proposed series) airs. It is based on the Disney live-action film Escape to Witch Mountain.
1985: Clarence Nash, the voice of Donald Duck, passes at age 80 of leukemia in California. (The tombstone of the grave he will share with his wife Margaret – who will pass in 1993 – will depict a carving of Donald and Daisy Duck holding hands.)
1986: WED Enterprises is renamed Walt Disney Imagineering. (The term “Imagineering” is a portmanteau word that combines “imagination” and “engineering.” The term was coined by Richard F. Sailer in an in-house article written for the National Carbon Company Management Magazine, and reprinted by the Union Carbide Company.)
1995: AT&T and The Walt Disney Company announces the latest project in their 35-year association: the launch of the Indiana Jones Adventure, Disneyland’s exciting new thrill ride.
1996: The ABC-TV sitcom Roseanne debuts part 1 of a Disney-themed episode titled “We’re Going to Disney World.”
1998: The streets of Downtown Disney Pleasure Island are transformed into the French Quarter for a special five-night Mardi Gras celebration.
2002: It is reported that a brand new tombstone has been placed in the graveyard at the entrance to Walt Disney World’s Haunted Mansion. The tombstone, the last one you will see when entering the attraction, is dedicated to Leota.
