Well, Disney has finished their nationwide search to re-create the 80s. DEV2.0 is the first of many 2.0 projects out of Disney. Dev 2.0 is a group of tweens from ages 10-13 who are part of this retro, yet contemporary band that re-creates the classic Devo sound. Overall the music isn’t that bad and it brings a fresh sound to classic 80s songs for the current generation. I thought this was a one time deal but no. This is only the beginning.
Disney Sound is going to do this a number of times as long as it sells. This is just the first in the line up to happen. It isn’t a bad concept and at first was drawn back from it…but then I had to step away for a minute and think….well, when I was a kid some bands I liked redid old songs my parents loved. For expample…Motley Crue’s “Smoking in the Boys Room.” So I guess maybe it isn’t a bad thing after all. It brings the songs to a new group people out there.
What’s next for DEV2.0? A limited U.S. Tour to promote the album and such and then Disney will head back to re-create the GoGos in a band called “The Po-Gos.”
