The great and powerful Disney/Pixar does it again with the smash hit Cars. Opening this weekend with a whopping $62.8 million dollars making it the third highest opening for a Pixar film behind Finding Nemo and The Incredibles. I saw the movie this weekend and I was struck with its similarity to another film, Doc Hollywood. Let me explain.
Plot Summary of Cars from the IMDB
Lightning McQueen is a cocky, rookie race car. Speeding on his way to a big race, he crashes into Radiator Springs, destroying lots of the inhabitants belongings. In order to make up for what he did, the cocky roadster is sentenced to community service. Though he will do anything to get away from the work, McQueen must learn to respect and bond with the Radiator Springs inhabitants in order to get out of the town and back on the racetracks.
Plot Summary of Doc Hollywood from the IMDB
Benjamin Stone is a young doctor driving to L.A where he was offered a new job as a plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills. He gets off the highway to avoid a traffic jam, but gets lost and ends up crashing into a fence in the small town of Grady. He is sentenced to 32 hrs of community service at the local hospital. All he wants is to serve the sentence and get moving, but gradually the locals become attached to the new doctor, and he falls for the pretty ambulance driver, Lou. Will he leave?
Well what do you think? Pretty close huh? All I got to say is that its about time they made over the timeless classic, Doc Hollywood and gave it the animated treatment it so richly deserves.

Hey none - I thought I might be the only one who noticed as well, but I find it kind of comforting that I was not.
