Before Duck Tales swept into the mid-eighties Disney line up, Gummi Bears reigned supreme. It was a great show. A story about a dying empire of magical bears who stick together, fighting the forces of evil who would try to steal their secrets, while at the same time seeking the truth of their origin. Amazing. It had some things in common with the Smurfs, but was its animation and story structure was a 100 times more sophisticated.

Sadly when Duck Tales came along, Gummi Bears was lost in the shadow of that Disney afternoon leviathan. Now I was a fan od Duck Tales, but Gummi Bears will always have a special place in my heart. It brought Disney animation back to broadcast television in a big way and thanks to the magic of DVD you can rediscover the magic of this great show. Volume 1 has season 1-3!
