Atlantis Fun

16 Jun 2001 In: Movies

If you”re still not tired of hearing about Atlantis, here are a couple links that are pretty fun to play with.

First, Yahoo! Movies has a little “Fun for Kids” section with some clever activites. You can reach it here:

http://movies.yahoo.com/hv/movies/feature/atlantis.html

The “Fun for Kids” section is located in the bottom left of the page.

Second, the official Atlantis site (www.disney.com/atlantis) has a downloadable Atlantean font and instructions on how to read/write in Atlantean.

Atlantis: The Lost Continent Reviewed

16 Jun 2001 In: Movies

I”m sure everyone is quite sick of hearing about Atlantis: The Lost Empire by now, but I”d still like to give you a taste of what I thought of it.

First of all… WOW. I loved the movie. Disney has created a great film this time around. While I do enjoy Disney’’s musicals and talking animals, I definitely agree with the change of pace. I didn”t even bother to see Mulan or Pocahontas because they looked like typical Disney films. Between The Emporer’’s New Groove and Atlantis, I think Disney is moving in the right direction.

Next up… this film is HUGE. It is presented in anamorphic 2.35:1 widescreen format. That means it’’s WIDE. Watching it on a big screen in a large theatre is an amazing experience. There were parts where I felt like I was in Disney World in an attraction, waiting for the seats to start moving. :) This movie could very easily translate to an attraction, although it probably won”t. I would love to see it take over the Fantasmic! theatre as an extravagent show packed with water effects.

Finally, I can”t agree with what people are complaining about. Sure it’’s not your standard Disney… that’’s a GOOD thing. It doesn”t mean that Disney is going to stay away from their traditional style forever. It’’s good to change though. If other studios constantly released the same types of films, everyone would grow very bored of them. I think the same goes for Disney and animation in general.

Overall, Atlantis is clearly my favorite Disney film since Aladdin.

Las Vegas Monorail Similarites

The city of Las Vegas looks to be the next city to get a major monorail system. It is scheduled to open in Spring of 2004 when it will be come the “largest monorail system to be developed since 1971.” Well, we all know what happened in 1971, don”t we? :)

The following link shows some artists conceptions of what the Las Vegas monorail may look like, courtesy of monorail.org.

Pay special attention to the picture at the bottom. Is it me, or does whole concept of a monorail above of a pentagonal sign with a circular icon on top seem very familiar… a certain Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow comes to mind… hmmm. I may have to make a trip to Vegas in 2004. Maybe we”ll get to hear, “Please stand clear of the gamblers. Por favor mantenganse alejado de las jugadores.

Monorail A Bit Under The Weather

15 Jun 2001 In: Walt Disney World

A massive storm in Orlando Thursday caused power to the Walt Disney World monorail system to shut down when lightning hit a wire box controlling it. The monorail, filled with Disney guests, had to be towed back to the station. Winds from that storm reached up to 70 mph. No injuries were reported. The monorail is currently back up and running with no problems.
