Gay Days Secretly Video Taped

4 Jun 2001 In: Walt Disney World

Friday was the start of Gay Pride Month as well as the annual tradition of Gay Days that started 11 years ago, where gay people from all over visit Disney World together. Gay Days are not a Disney-sponsored event, but rather a completely separately organized one.

Two members of the Christian Action Network, Martin Mawyer and Phillip Vaught, secretly videotaped gay visitors taking part in Gay Days at Walt Disney World over the past weekend. Specifically, they tried to blend in while video taping a large crowd of shirtless men dancing on the revolving floor of Mannequins Dance Palace in Pleasure Island. In 1999, the two caught more inappropriate behavior than dancing on tape while in Pleasure Island.

Their ultimate goal is to “warn” parents that if they decide to take make a trip to Disney World during this time, they should expect behavior and crowds that are not quite featured on Disney commercials and brochures. They plan on showing their recent tapes at the next Disney shareholders meeting.

Disney spokesman Rena Callahan said that if anything causes a guest to feel uncomfortable during Gay Days, Cast Members will do everything possible to make them feel comfortable.
