Winnie the Pooh and Pals

12 Feb 2001 In: Disney Channel

Winnie the Pooh and friends will be returning to television in a hybrid puppet/computer animation television program. The show will be a half hour and will be shown on the Disney Channel at 7:30 am, 10 am and 12:30 pm. Each episode will feature two tales from the Hundred Acre Woods.

The show is hybrid high tech version of the Japanese Technique call bunraku. Where puppeteers in green outfits play the roles of your favorite characters in front of a green screen. Through the magic of computers all the other aspects of the show are added.

Atlantis: The Lost Empire is directed by Kirk Wise and Gary Trousdale, the pair behind Disney’’s Beauty and the Beast and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The team looked to the original Disneyland Park for inspiration and realized that while the studio had successfully revived its “Fantasyland” side with popular musicals (The Lion King, Aladdin, etc.), it had been neglecting its “Adventureland” heritage. I still believe that the Aladdin ride belongs in Fantasyland, it was just convenient to put it in Adventureland.

Creating a Jules Verne-like original story about a voyage to the fabled city of Atlantis, the directors enlisted comic book artist Mike Mignola (Hellboy), known for his stark visual style, to design the key characters and settings for the piece. As far away from traditional Disney design as they could get, this nonmusical feature is a more mature Disney action-adventure that harkens back to such classic Disney live-action films as 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Kidnapped and Treasure Island. Atlantis premieres next June 2001.

Welcome to my new site. I created this because I am a huge fan of Disney parks. I am not trying to make the definitive site about the parks. I just wanted to make a place where I can express my enthusiasm. If you would like to hang out here and post news and what not, please feel free to. If not, thanks for stopping by.
